Intrusive Pig Signaler

Intrusive Pig Signaler

Elite Texas Piping & Flange LLC can support project-specific pig signaler solutions for pipeline cleaning, inspection and pig launcher/receiver operations. Configurations are selected to suit pipeline conditions, installation details and customer specifications.

Product Overview

An intrusive pig signaler is a pipeline accessory used to provide local indication that a pipeline pig has passed a designated point or has arrived at or departed from a pig launcher or receiver. A sensing element extends into the pipeline and is actuated by a passing pig; the mechanism then operates a visual indicator and, where specified, an electrical switching device.

Visual Indication
High-visibility mechanical flag to indicate a pig passage event.
Electrical Option
Optional limit switch or proximity switch for remote indication, subject to selected configuration.
Pipeline Or Pig Trap
Designed for use at selected pipeline locations and pig launcher/receiver facilities.
Configurable Connections
Potential boss-mounted or flanged arrangements, subject to line design and engineering review.

Typical Applications

  • Confirming pig departure from launchers and arrival at receivers.
  • Indicating pig passage at selected pipeline stations and route locations.
  • Supporting pipeline cleaning and maintenance activities.
  • Providing local indication, with optional signal transmission to a control or monitoring system.

Available Configuration Concepts

Configuration Indication Notes
Mechanical / visual Manual-reset or selected flag arrangement Simple local indication
Electrical Limit switch or proximity switch Electrical interface to be defined by project
Combined Visual flag plus electrical output For local and remote indication
Mounting arrangement Welded boss or flanged connection Subject to line class, wall thickness and installation design

Preliminary Technical Data

The following is a selection checklist, not a certified rating sheet. Final values must be confirmed against the project datasheet and approved design.

Temperature range To be confirmed for process and ambient conditions
Wetted / pressure-retaining materials Carbon steel, stainless steel or duplex options may be evaluated
Seal materials Selected for process fluid, temperature and pressure
Connection Welded boss, flanged or other engineered arrangement
Indicator Mechanical visual flag; electrical option available
Switch type / rating Limit or proximity switch; electrical data to be specified
Corrosion / sour-service requirements Specify NACE / ISO 15156 requirements where applicable
Documentation Inspection and material documentation to be agreed in purchase specification

Engineering & Ordering Checklist

To select and quote the correct configuration, please provide:

  • Pipeline nominal size, schedule / wall thickness and line class.
  • Design pressure, operating pressure, design temperature and operating temperature.
  • Process fluid and any sour-service, corrosion or hazardous-area requirements.
  • Pig type and construction (cleaning, batching, inspection, sphere or other).
  • Required mounting location and orientation, with available branch / boss details.
  • Required indication: visual flag, electrical switch, or combined.
  • Switch contact type, voltage/current, enclosure rating and hazardous-area certification, if required.
  • Material, coating, testing, inspection and documentation requirements.
  • Whether installation or removal under pressure is required; this must be explicitly engineered and approved.

Important Design & Safety Notes

Pig signalers are pressure-containing pipeline accessories. Do not assume a device is suitable for live-line installation, retrieval under pressure, a particular ASME class, temperature, or sour-service duty unless that capability is explicitly confirmed by the manufacturer and approved engineering documentation. Final design, pressure boundary, materials, seals, mounting details, inspection and testing must be verified for each application before manufacture or installation.
